Life: The Ultimate Rat-Race

Everyone keeps pushing and striving in the race. "Take it easy..."- the simplest and most politically correct answer to a stalemate/fumble in life. However, despite its simplicity, many stray far from that phrase and continue their never-ending trudge forward. The noose or the express route down are the apparent shortcuts for a premature exit from the race or a pyrotechnic ending with a firearm against your temple if you have access to in closely-guarded Singapore.

Rapid expansion of an economy, lack of occupational safeguards, emotional stress, lack of self-confidence, monetary difficulties... etc. They all sound like your next door neighbour, always ever ready to pop by for a visit.  In fact, some of them are already in place. In whatever permutations or combinations you place them, they will still form the perfect concoction for a breakdown. It is a cancer, a super cancer of life.

Recent events have shown the true potential of the result of exhaustion from the race. The 'shortcut exit', proves effective to the tired runner, but leaves his team at home in devastation. No applause, no standing ovation. What is admirable would be the courage needed to execute the act, think about it - self-preservation is the rule of thumb for all living organisms and to break that, one definitely needs more than sheer determination.

A simple congruence of work and play is easy to preach on, but to achieve it, that is debatable. This basic balance has been inculcated in various stages and institutions in our lives, yet many of us are still far from skimming the surface of this good habit.

Well, we are all different with different levels of tolerance. There is no textbook way of doing it right, it all boils down to one's personal judgement and if life takes a tumble, always bear in mind, "Take it easy..."

To make it clear, I hate funerals and wakes. Sad places just doesn't work for me.
